Why We Brought Caldor Back
Caldor opened its first store in Port Chester, New York in 1951 and grew, store by store, into one of the friendliest discount chains in the Northeast. By the 90s, there were over 145 of them — with rainbow logos out front, Sunday circulars on the kitchen counter, and a school-supply aisle that every kid memorized.
Then in 1999, the chain closed. The stores became other stores, the signs came down, and a piece of Saturday-afternoon America quietly went away.
This site is a love letter to that store. We pulled the rainbow logo out of the attic, picked up the .com, and started carrying the kind of stuff Caldor would have carried — vintage toys, original-label apparel with the old wordmark, hard-to-find collectibles.
